Positive and Negative of Montreal
Bennett, John Brent
Life Story
Just as Canadian culture has so often been overlaid on top of the Indigenous cultures on which it was built, so too are Indigenous cultures now increasingly overlaid onto Canadian landscapes. This print by Haida artist John Brent Bennett fulfils this remembrance: a depiction of the concrete and glass skyline interspersed with its night-time negative seen through a curving formline design – the Indigenous transforming the settler construction.
