Lidded pot
Johannes Peters
Life Story
Johannes Milan’s ceramics exude life and there is an anthropomorphic quality to this thrown lidded jar. Abstract cobalt lines and shapes animate the surface and are used by Milan as a language across his tableware (see also 50764 and 50796). Milan uses a clear nepheline glaze to bring light and depth to his slip-coated surfaces. [1]
Milan apprenticed for five years in France with Jean-Nicolas Gerard (see 50741) making slip earthenware before setting up his own studio in Germany, where he now lives and works.
