A lady offers wine to her lover
Life Story
Under Aurangzeb’s grandson Muhammed Shah (1719-1748) there was a revival of the Mughal painting style. A rhythmic drawing method was developed with smooth lines and realistic images. This painting was produced during this period of revival. A young prince leans against a cushion while his lover offers him wine from a bottle. The sensuous atmosphere, general theme and faces in profile are Indian, but the elegant lines and finely detailed drawing seem Persian.
