Seated male figure
Life Story
Provenance
Note in the Sainsbury Centre archives suggesting the object came from the top of a temple stairway, possibly from one of the smaller temples in Mexico City (Tenochtitlan) and was broken when the ancient city was levelled and the debris thrown into the canals during the last stage of the siege in 1521.
Formerly in the possession of Syndney Burney.
Purchased by Robert and Lisa Sainsbury from K. J. Hewett in 1951.
Donated to the Sainsbury Centre, University of East Anglia in 1973 as part of the original gift.
