Provenance
According to the vendor, it was found in the Las Choapas river in Veracruz. This possibly refers to the Arroyo Pesquero finds of the 1960s, when numerous masks, celts and other items, were reportedly found in the Las Choapas region.
Purchased by the Sainsbury Centre, University of East Anglia from Edward H. Merrin Gallery, New York in 1975 out of funds provided by Robert and Lisa Sainsbury.
