Hanging image of Yakushi Nyorai, the Medicine Buddha
Life Story
This circular bronze plaque has a central image showing a seated Buddha figure in raised relief. Incised lines indicate flowing robes and he sits on a lotus flower. The right arm is raised and the left arm sits on the left knee. An intricate fretwork ‘halo’ surrounds the head and the figure is flanked on either side by a slender tall-necked vessel. The plaque has 19 studs in the outer rim, and shows that one is missing, while tow clasps are attacked to the upper right and left side, pierced for suspension purposes. The plaque shows significant green patination.
