Jar with a modelled human figure
Life Story
This circular pottery jar stands upon three small feet and has a circular neck. A human figure has been modelled and appears to come out of one side of the jar. Only the head, arms and feet have been sculpted. The right arm is drawn towards the face with the hand resting on the right cheek whereas the left arm rests upon the side of the jar. Facial features have been roughly modelled and incised lines define the feet.
Surrounding the figure the jar has been decorated with an abstract pattern formed using incised lines. A red glaze has been applied to most of the jar apart from the face of the figure and the area surrounding it which are yellow in colour. A black deposit appears in areas on the surface and a few chips can be found revealing the colour of the material underneath.
